Will a Solid Roof really help solve the temperature problems in my Conservatory?
Do I need Planning Permission?
Do I need Building Regulations Certification?
Most likely YES. We will discuss this subject with you in more detail during our initial visit.
The AURA Roof System is fully approved by MFA Building Control, which helps simplify and speed up the certification process. We always recommend checking with your local authority for specific requirements.
How long will the installation take?
While every project is unique, a typical AURA roof installation takes just 2–3 days to complete. In most cases, the roof is fully secured and made weather-tight on the first day, allowing the rest of the work to follow smoothly. Similarly an Insulated Panel Roof will usually be completed in 1-2 days.
Is condensation a real issue?
Not with an Evergreen Conservatory Roof. Our AURA Roof system is designed with built-in ventilation and uses naturally insulating timber, which has a much lower thermal conductivity than metal. The result is a low U-value and strong performance in condensation risk analysis — making it far more efficient than traditional glazed roofs.
Will I need to change the Window and Door Frames too?
The AURA Roof System is engineered to be lightweight yet strong. While slightly heavier than a glazed roof, it remains well within acceptable structural limits for most existing conservatories. Following government guidelines, Evergreen will assess the condition of the structure and ensure the foundations, windows, and door frames are suitable or reinforced as required. On the rare occasions that the frames will need to be replaced, Evergreen can quote for this work too.
Will I lose light by installing a Tiled Roof?
This is a very common concern. All we can tell you is that in our experience (over 700 installations) the room does not lose light. We attribute 3 reasons for this:
a. Your current roof is translucent not transparent. This means that 100% of light will not currently be reaching your room through the roof. With polycarbonate in particular as little as 30% of the natural light reaches the room.
b. Everyone paints the new ceiling white which reflects some of the lost light back into the conservatory.
c. This is still a room with far more windows than any other room in the house, therefore it will remain the brightest room in the house
Switching to a solid tiled roof eliminates the harsh glare and extreme temperature shifts caused by fully glazed roofs.
Will an Evergreen Roof match the look of my home?
Absolutely. The AURA Roof System is fully customisable, with a wide selection of tile/slate styles, colours, fascias, and guttering options. Whether you want a seamless match with your existing roof or a fresh complementary finish, AURA is designed to blend beautifully with any property style.
Do you think it will add value to my home?
When considering a replacement conservatory roof the answers is almost certainly yes. Think of your buyer looking around your home. With a new Solid Roof installed they see a room that looks great and they can use all year round, they will begin to plan how they can best use this space. With a glass or polycarbonate roof they see a room that they know needs to be refurbished or replaced – which scenario do you think will allow you to sell your home more quickly and at a better asking price?
How much does a Conservatory Roof Replacement cost?
Why is this a better alternative to fitting blinds?
Blinds will improve the thermal performance of your roof but only very marginally. Blinds are literally paper thin, how can that compare with multiple layers of foam and/or quilt insulation, timber decking, tiles and plaster board? The answer is that it cannot and that is why we have replaced many roofs that have roof blinds fitted.
How about high performance roof glass?
When Evergreen were building conventional conservatories we used to install the best roof glass that Pilkington could supply, with all the bells and whistles and this was the best product available at that time.
Now however, we have the AURA Roof System and/or Insulated Panels that are radically better than even the best thermal roof glass. At the end of the day how can a 24mm double glazed roof glass compete with multiple layers of insulation, timber decking, tiles and plaster board? The answer is that it cannot and that is why we changed to installing AURA Roofs or Insulated Panels 100% of the time which work no matter what they British weather is doing.
